First Haircut

Last week Dayton was called a She, a few too many times, so I promised Thomas I would get his haircut soon. Each day I have asked him if he wanted his haircut. He has responded with a firm "Uh-Uh" while shaking his head side to side. Today though I got a nice happy "Uh-huh" So off we went.
I was very sad, because I knew it was going to make him look so much older (and so much more like a boy Thomas would say). I also know those curls will never come back. All three of them had curly hair at first.
So, Me, Dayton, and of course the camera headed out to the barber shop.
The before...ohh how soft and luscious those curls were :(

Sitting in the chair like a big guy.

The first snip.

A little in between mullet action I couldn't stop myself form documenting

Yes, he cried when he saw it. He was fine the entire time until he looked at the mirror.

And the after. It looks really nice, but I still miss my curls. Dayton isn't totally digging it either he still rubs his head and cries when I put him in front of a mirror.

I found your blog from my sister's blog, Risa'sPieces. I really enjoy reading yours. You have a beautiful family. My little guy is seven now but he had a head full of curls just like your youngest. I remember the first haircut! My little guy wore his hair short and spikey for the longest time until the first grade when he saw a picture of himself with all of the curls and decided to grow it out again. The curls do come back but they will never look like they did when they were a baby.

OMG!!! How sweet is that? That sad face made me say awwwwwwwww. He looks so cute though. Like a big boy now. I know b/c I was the same way with Hagen. Even before we buzzed his hair, his first haircut just made him look so much older. Anyways, he's still adorable.

Hi, I found your blog from the Bowman's in Okinawa blog. There are not too many Lewellen's out there who spell their last name that way and so it caught my eye. I was wondering if you all or your families are originally from Indiana? My mom's maiden name is Lewellen and my grandfather had 8 brothers and sisters so I thought I'd ask. My e-mail is scrystal04@hotmail.com I'd love to know if there is a connection with the last name even it is very distant. I'm on Okinawa too and love it. Your kids are adorable. Regards,
Crystal

Great storytelling Shannan. I love your pictures. Those pictures you caught of Dayton are priceless. Dayton is still cute even after cutting off all those curls.

Oh my gosh! He looks adorable! Robbie had the same curls when he was young, and my mom did not want to cut them off. To also comment on a couple of your other blogs: I read the one about your daddy. I am so sorry for all of the pain and for the unfairness of losing him. It was nice to see someone open up the way you did and be real. You should be so proud of yourself. You are an amazing person. I'm only an email away if you ever wanna chat (I would love it). Also, I love looking at all of your pics. They are amazing! Please don't stop sharing them.
