Is there a Doctor on call?

In the last 15 minutes I have needed....

A Cardiologist: I was in the laundry room and called to Braden asking what Dayton was doing. His response "Walking outside" What?? Oh, he said he was LOOKING outside...whew much better.

Gastroenterologists: For the upset feeling in my belly, when I came downstairs from putting aforementioned laundry away, and found Dayton combing his hair with the toilet brush. Nice.

Neurologist: For when Dayton subsequently slipped and fell on the water that had dripped from the *gag* toilet brush, and Landed smack on the back of his head.

Cardiologist: For when I realized Braden was missing and found him 5 minutes alter petting the neighbors (not so friendly) dog down the hill.

Ring me....

After being here for almost 2 years, I have finally broke down and bought a cell phone. I have enjoyed the past 2 years of not being attached to a phone, and being able to get away without someone calling. But, with Thomas leaving soon, I decided to get one for Emergency reasons. They are very expensive to use though, so it wont get much use. It is a cute phone though, if I only knew how to use it. I don't even know what my phone number is...

Friends Abroad

Yesterday our family hosted a group of Japanese students from Mainland. We hosted them through a program called Friends Abroad. The students come to Okinawa for 3-4 days to tour and learn some of the local culture, and one day they spend with an American family, and learn some of our culture and language. This time we had 1 girl and 2 boys age 14. They were very nice, and loved playing with the boys.I picked them up around 9:30. We came back on base and went straight to the shoppette to let them pick out some treats and get a snack for myself (I hadn't had breakfast yet). They picked out whoppers, a whatchamacallit bar, and a push pop. The girl chose a Twister drink, and the boys both got Japanese drinks. After this we went to the library to return some of the kids books they had checked out. The boys walked around and the girl went straight for a Seventeen magazine. We stayed for a while and Iread to the boys, while they listened also. By now it was lunch time. I took them to Keegans school to have lunch with him in the cafeteria. The Japanese do school lunch very differently that we do. I could write another post on just that. Here is a link that tells a bit more.
After lunch we came home so Dayton could take a nap. While he was napping the kids played Ned's Head and Jenga. They played with Hot Wheels and Legos. We got out the map and showed them where we are from in Mississippi, and they showed us their home in Mie. Soon it was time to pick Keegan up from school. After picking him up we went to Habu Hill where there is an excellent view of the flightline and we could see the jets taking off and landing. Then a quick trip to the BX and it was time to take them back to their bus. We did make a quick stop at the beach where this picture was taken.

Cow Parade

At the Botanical Gardens these painted cows were everywhere. I had read about tehm being in New York at one time, now there are a few here! Cow Parade is the World's largest public art event. These cows are usually painted by locals wherever they are, and at some point in time auctioned off with the money going to charity.
And please forgive me for the mess thee pictures are in, I don't know how to fix it....

Field Trip to Botanical Gardens

On Friday Keegans class had a field trip to the Botanical Gardens. We had never been before, so I went along and took Braden and Dayton to enjoy the fun. It was a beautiful place, although I head that their are more flowers in bloom towards the end of the Summer. We may have to go back then.

These were some hungry fish!
Dayton was so good, he just chilled in the stroller the entire trip :)

The tourist from Taiwan harassing Braden and Dayton.

A pretty butterfly.
Banana's growing.

More on Life in Japan

This weeks post is all about feet....
These first pictures are at a public foot bath. I could sit there and soak my feet and calves all afternoon, with the sounds of the ocean in the background. The water is nice and hot and supposedly comes from an underground spring and is loaded with minerals that are suppose to make you all healthy. This one is free to use, there is another one in a spa close by that you pay to use. It has doctor fish in it that eat away the dead skin off your feet. I am not sure I am brave enough to try that one.

These pictures were taken at a childrens park here. There is a side walk with different sizes and shapes of rocks, you take off your shoes walk across and at the other end there is a water fountain to rinse off your feet. (Ignore the flip-flop lines)

Busy week

I can't even remember when the last time I posted was (and I am too lazy to go back and look) but it has been a while. We have been very busy around here, beach trips, field trips, flea market and more beach trips. I do have some cute pictures, tan lines, a bag full of yen coins and a whole bucket of sea glass to show for it though. I will try to catch up...slowly but surely ;)

Question

If my kids put soap on the slip and slide to go faster....do they still need to bathe that day?

Kurashiki Dam

Yesterday we took the kids to Kurashiki Dam to play for a few hours.

The huge tower we can see form our house.

View form the top, thats the dam in the top left corner

Our house would be somewhere behind them.

The waterfall where the kids play.

Yeah, no joke. That was the wobbliest elevator ever. I told the kids to just hold their breath until it stopped. If you breathed, or moved at all the whole 5x5 metal box we were locked in moved.

It was really windy...holding on for dear life :)
