Sleeping Bags, Diapers, and Insect Repellant

Those are the vital things I forgot to take on a five day camping trip. Nevertheless we had a great time. Turns out a sleeping bag isn't all that necessary Mid-June on a Tropical island. Dayton wore swimming trunks during all awake hours, and I had about 7 diapers in my diaperbag, just enough. Not to mention I am certain his favorite part about camping was the unrestricted 24/7 access to his man parts. So much that other families we had never met started affectionately calling him Al Bundy. Lets just say the sand toys didnt get played with nearly as much as I expected.... As for the bug spray. Yes, I will definitely remember that next time. I have 100+ mysterious bug bites on my legs. The boys, somehow remained unbitten.

I took the boys camping at Okuma, which is a nice little military resort up on the Northern end of the island. The area is on a small peninsula that sticks out from the main island. So lots of beach, and lots of water, and lots of beautiful views.

The ride up was nice, the boys were so well behaved and we only had to make one stop at a Family Mart to use the potty. There were some interesting signs on the way up that I couldn't get pictures of, because I was like, um, driving.

We got to Okuma around noon, and check in wasn't until 2. We were the only ones staying in the cabin there so we got to go ahead and unload.

The cabins were nice, just a small room with a bed and a/c unit, and a small fridge/microwave. We had to walk across the street to use the community shower/bathroom.

We were unloaded just in time to get to the beach around 2pm and stay until sunset. Which is what we did all 4 nights.

Most of our days consisted of Breakfast, Beach, Lunch, Nap Time for Dayton, Snack, Beach, Dinner, Baths, Bed

One morning everyone was awake at 6am, so we went out walking, there was a nature trail that went to a lookout point. SO up we went. Man was it a hike. Maybe not so bad if you don't ahve a 4 year old that walks slower than slow, and has to stop and touch everything and an almost 30lb baby on your hip the entire time. Once we got to the other side and saw the beautiful views, it was all worth it.

There is a small restaurant there, and I know others have had better experiences, but ours was not so great. Frankly I thought the food was nasty. Maybe I was expecting too much, but Lester Hospital had better food..yuck.. We wouldn't have even eaten there, as I had enough food. But someone sucks at cooking on a grill, and that would be me.

Two afternoons we rented this dandy little bicycle, that would have been so much more enjoyable with another adult pedaling. The kids loved it though, as you can see. There was a cute, but annoying little bell on the front, and after Keegan had rang it about a dozen times I mentioned it might be time to quit. Then Keegan said "Mama, ringing the bell makes me happy!" Ok, if that bell ringing makes you happy, go ahead, ring it all you want.

And lastly here are a few of the critters we encountered while there.
The first one is a cicada, see the 'shell' under it, the boys watched it shed its skin. The second picture was a teeny tiny too cute crab. Those are Bradens hands. Then Keegan with his fuzzy caterpillar. Keegan found it, tehn Braden adopted it. He carried it everywhere for 2 days. Then he dropped it (in the cabin). We searched and searched to no avail. I was certain I would wake up with it crawling across my face.. Well a few hours later, at the restaurant, guess what Braden finds hanging on to his black shorts...the caterpillar! It had stuck to his shorts and been there all that time!
