Friends Abroad

Yesterday our family hosted a group of Japanese students from Mainland. We hosted them through a program called Friends Abroad. The students come to Okinawa for 3-4 days to tour and learn some of the local culture, and one day they spend with an American family, and learn some of our culture and language. This time we had 1 girl and 2 boys age 14. They were very nice, and loved playing with the boys.I picked them up around 9:30. We came back on base and went straight to the shoppette to let them pick out some treats and get a snack for myself (I hadn't had breakfast yet). They picked out whoppers, a whatchamacallit bar, and a push pop. The girl chose a Twister drink, and the boys both got Japanese drinks. After this we went to the library to return some of the kids books they had checked out. The boys walked around and the girl went straight for a Seventeen magazine. We stayed for a while and Iread to the boys, while they listened also. By now it was lunch time. I took them to Keegans school to have lunch with him in the cafeteria. The Japanese do school lunch very differently that we do. I could write another post on just that. Here is a link that tells a bit more.
After lunch we came home so Dayton could take a nap. While he was napping the kids played Ned's Head and Jenga. They played with Hot Wheels and Legos. We got out the map and showed them where we are from in Mississippi, and they showed us their home in Mie. Soon it was time to pick Keegan up from school. After picking him up we went to Habu Hill where there is an excellent view of the flightline and we could see the jets taking off and landing. Then a quick trip to the BX and it was time to take them back to their bus. We did make a quick stop at the beach where this picture was taken.
