After talking to some friends back home, I realized some of you are interested in the little differences in life here in Japan. Most of it seems so commonplace now, I will be lost when we go back to the states. My kids will die when they find out Qoo isnt available back home.
So, I have made a conscious effort to take pictures of the small things that make life here different than the States.
Eneos is a gas station. The Japanese do it differently though. At Eneos you will only find car care products. Sorry, no soda, fried chicken or candy bars.
But, I do assure you, a soda machine is close by. There are machines just like this one EVERYWHERE.Even in the middle on nowhere, driving along in sugarcane fields, and on the side of the street 3 vending machines as if they just dropped from the sky. My favorite is this one.
Don't you all want a nice cool refreshing bottle of sweat :) Another interesting fact, is that some have both hot and cold beverages in the same machine. So, you can get a nice hot (canned) coffee, and get the kids their Qoo fix all in the same stop.
This next picture doesn't really show what I want, but anyhow. Japanese are awesome parkers (I know, not a word). They can park their cars in the tiniest of places. Sometimes we see a car in a garage, with about 4 inches of space on both sides of the car. I have no idea how they get out of the vehicle once it is parked there. They also back into their parking spaces. Not really sure of the physics behind that one, but hey it works :) Oh, and that would be a 2 way street you are looking at.
I also find it interesting at how many unsupervised children you see out and about. Very young children at that.
It is also very normal to see people parked on the sidewalk. Parking is a major issue here.
See the building at the end of the street, with the big P, that is a parking garage. I would assume they have these in bigger cities in the US, but I had never seen them before coming here.
And the little white truck. These trucks are everywhere! Actually, come to think of it, I think it is the only truck I have seen here. Everyone drives cars.
The sign up above the traffic is for FamilyMart. Kinda like a 7/11. This is where you go to get candy, soda, etc. They also have magazines, and nicely packaged single packs of panties and socks. Guess some people lose theirs on their way to work?

Love the every day shots. Reminds me a lot of China. I can't remember the name of the drink the kids liked in China but it was kind of like a yogurt smoothie or something. I remember a lot of the girls really liking it! LOL and the little trucks! We passed one that was stacked with, I kid you not, milk crate looking boxes filled with champange bottles! Too funny. I could go on, but I'll stop. It really is the little things sometimes that can seem so very different.
I remember those vending machines! The vending machine that was in my hotel room has alcohol in it! Then another machine had several different newspapers in there. It was quite different!
