There was a very sad happening in front of the Lewellen home last Friday night.
First, let me back up a few weeks.
3 weeks ago, right before heading to Okuma, we decided to invest in a Digital SLR camera. I take a gazillion pictures with my little pink camera, and get frustrated when they aren't pretty. We have been traveling alot, and I want awesome pictures to have for my kids when they are older. I want to have my blog printed into a book via Blurb. And darn it I want my pictures to be pretty!
You may have been able to tell my pictures were a bit clearer, but probably not because I still suck at using it. There are lots of umm buttons and wheels and other turny things that make my head spin when Katherine starts telling me how to use them. Thank You so much Katherine for trying, I will catch on soon I promise.
So, anyways, the point of this post...
Friday Night, 6(ish) p.m.
We had a few friends over playing on our ghetto slide I posted about earlier.
I was, of course, taking pictures.
So, I go to put my camera away, and I somehow fumbled it all and dropped it.
The lens snapped off the body, it was broken. I was sad.
(I didn't cry, but had Katherine and the neighbor and 8 kids not been standing there, I would have most likely thrown myself on the floor in kicking and crying inconsolably fit, that would have even impressed a 2 year old)
Thankfully, the body (the most expensive part) was intact.
After I broke the news to Thomas I started my online search to replace the lens, as the camera was pretty useless without it. The most traumatic thing to me, was the fact I was going to be without a camera for at least 10 days(the quickest anything can be shipped here).
We have a dandy little online classifieds site here www.japanupdate.com
I searched there and didn't see anything so I placed an ad looking for a used lens. Well, later that night, searching a bit further back I saw an ad for 2 Canon lenses! Yes! The jackpot, exactly what I needed. I emailed her, and Hello, a fellow night owl, she responded quickly at 10 pm.
We exchanged a few emails and, being the small world we live in here, find out it's my neighbor! And the friend of a friend of a friend, or something like that. Anyhow..
She had the exact same lens I had broken, wasn't using it any longer...and get this....she gave it to me. Yes, I said she gave it to me, for free. No strings attached. She didn't try to take a kid, make me clean her house, or anything like that. Just a super sweet gift.
(This is the part where my frown turns to a beaming smile, and I am finally able to sleep, as my world is back into one piece)
So, I meet her the next day to get the replacement for the lens I broke and I bought one of the others she had for sale. (my camera bag is getting full alot quicker than I had planned, up to three lenses, and contemplating on adding one more)
The point of this post is to publicly declare my love of super-nice people and thankfulness to Kassia. I am adding her blog to my blogroll, Our Life is an Open Blog(hope you don't mind Kassia) as she has some super cute kids, awesome pictures, and funny stories to share.
